"We bought ours about 14 yrs ago because he liked soft and I liked firm mattresses. Now we have flipped and I like the softer one, but it's all good - we have just adjusted our beds! This bed has given us many nights of good sleep, it doesn't have to be turned, and it's easier to move than a normal mattress. Then we got one for our daughter and soon will get one for our son. These are great beds!"

"I had purchased 2 Sealy beds over time for MORE than the price of a Sleep Number and my last one for 7 years started to sag in the middle giving me back pain every time I got out of bed! I purchased a Sleep Number with Customer Service after going to a store nearby and trying out the bed for my self and when I was going to the store I had back pain but once I tried the bed and adjusted the bed to 55 it was just amazing how I could feel the difference and support in my back! I ordered my bed with amazing discounts on prices and delivery set up. I started with the # 55 when I got my bed and now I am at #80 I have had this bed for 7 months now and I DON'T HAVE ANY BACK PAIN ANYMORE! It just a WONDERFUL thing to get up in the morning WITHOUT PAIN! I wanted to get back to this review site months earlier to express my review and I'm glad I did! It's the BEST PURCHASE I ever made!"

"I bought the queen C3 with the modular base and legs earlier this month. The assembly process was easy, not requiring even a screwdriver to complete, and I had it all together in about two hours, even though I really took my time and had a couple of breaks. Once I had it all together, my wife and I eagerly had our first night sleeping on it, she setting her side on 35 and I setting my side on 45. We immediately liked it, but our standard fiberfill pillows were found lacking by the contrast in superior comfort level in our new bed, so I bought my wife the Select Comfort Custom Contour pillow and myself the CoolFit Foam Contour pillow. Now, we have pillows that are worthy of the most comfortable bed either of us has ever slept in. The adjustability in firmness is a huge selling point, something that can be changed for each sleeper from one day to the next, which is likely to be desired for soreness or even medical problems that would benefit from either a softer or firmer mattress. We also really like the thick pillow top, which really seems to greatly enhance the comfort of the bed. As mentioned earlier, this is by far the most comfortable bed either my wife or I have ever experienced, and we are much happier than we had even hoped we would be with it. I would just like to mention two small things for those ordering and assembling this bed. 1) Do not be tempted to order the bed without one of the foundations from Select Comfot, since those provide a rigid structure for this bed, which really needs one to support it for the best results. 2) If you are assembling this yourself, don't miss the part where the instructions mention putting the long piece of foam between the inflatable mattresses, as that part of the instructions is easy to miss. One last comment of my own regarding that foam divider is that I don't understand some of the reviews for this bed that mention it as being a cause of discomfort, as neither my wife nor I can feel it at all, and it serves nicely to keep each side independent from the other. In short, my wife and I LOVE this bed!"

"I have wanted a Select Comfort bed for quite some time, and the occasion of my impending marriage last year finally motivated me to pick out the C3 with my fiancee. We are now married, and I finally have my bed, and I am just thrilled at how incredibly comfortable it is, even more so than we had hoped. I also put it together myself, including the standard foundation and legs. I took my time to ensure I didn't miss any steps or get it wrong, so it took me about two and a half hours, with some breaks included, and I didn't touch so much as a screwdriver. The assembly was entirely by hand, a very clever system, with all the parts being modular. One note to those of you assembling this for the first time is that there is a long strip of foam that is to be put between the inflatable mattresses to divide them, and the instructions (for some reason) don't have that step obviously placed, so you will want to look very closely to find mention of it. I will send a suggestion to Select Comfort to edit their instructions so that step is not so easy to miss. Another thing I want to mention is that anyone who is tempted to buy the bed without one of the foundations is making a big mistake, since a standard bed frame will not provide a rigid platform for the underside of the mattresses themselves, leading to terrible sag and lots of other problems. I also seriously doubt that piece of heavy plywood under the bed on a standard frame won't provide enough rigidity either. You will also want to calibrate the mattress control according to the steps in the instructions, and you will want to check the sleep numbers on each side with the weight of the person sleeping on each respective side to verify your settings are where you want them. As I mentioned, be sure to take your time if you assemble it yourself, since it's essential to get it right, as I understand that the main reason for the few returns is because of improper assembly making the bed perform poorly. We were originally going to order the C2, but we're glad we held out for the C3 instead, mainly for the thick pillowtop cover and the wireless remote. I also have read some reviews that mention that foam divider I mentioned above, saying it was intrusive, but neither of us can feel it, so I am wondering if the complaints might be from improper assembly. Whatever the case, my wife and I have never found a more comfortable way to sleep, and we look forward to this for years to come. One last thing I wanted to mention is that nearly the entire bed is made in USA, something that means a lot to me, as I try to by American whenever possible."

"This is my 2nd Sleep Number bed, and I will NEVER buy another. Honestly I was enticed by the low price. But you might as well buy 2 camping mattresses and a 2 inch memory foam topper and save yourself a thousand dollars or more.
Overpriced. Sleep number adjustment does not change softness/firmness as advertised. It simply changes the spinal alignment, or support of the bed. The hammock effect."

"The bed is well made no question. The materials are solid. But there is very little padding on it. Because of this the bed really just feels like an air mattress and is really hard. My lower back pain disappeared but it moved to the middle of my back so Im still not sleeping well. Ill probably look for a thick down topper for it.
If you like a firm, hard bed go with this one, you'll like it. But if you are looking for a soft bed avoid this one at all cost. Go with the P series at the very least if you can afford it."

Response from Sleep NumberBy Stephanie, Customer Service, May 24, 2011
Hi Michael, I appreciate you sharing your experience. Our Classic series beds (the c2, c3 and c4) are the firmest beds we carry. The c3 has 1 inch of foam, which may not provide enough support in your individual case. Since there is less foam between the air chambers and your body, this provides a firmer feel. We do have some suggestions that will improve your comfort and would be happy to help you. Please give Customer Service a call at 1-888-411-2270 for assistance.

"Well we purchased a Simmons Beautyrest about 4 months ago for about the same price we could have purchased a select comfort. We really wanted a select comfort but the one we wanted (or thought we needed) was out of our price range. Well we got to sleep on a C3 at a hotel recently. These beds are awesome. The Simmons is already sagging an inch and the springs in the simmons are not strong enough with continuous weight as they sag the longer you lay on them. Don't make the same mistake we did if you are shopping for mattresses. Buy the select comfort and don't go to Ashleys and let them talk you into one of their overpriced under performing, terrible warranty support Simmon mattresses."

"I needed a firmer mattress for my back. My wife thought she needed a softer one for her hips. We went with the C3 thinking it would be easier to add layers of padding if we needed it rather than being stuck with too much padding in the higher models. Worked perfect. I added a 1 1/2 inch pad to my side of the bed under the mattress cover. Perfect. My wife ended up realizing she actually needed a firmer mattress than she thought. She wouldn't have realized it if she wasn't able to play with different "sleep numbers" for the first couple months. Now that we both have our sleep numbers, and I have the extra padding on my side, we think the bed is perfect and are very happy with our purchase. You could never customize a "regular" mattress for 2 different people the way we were able to with this one. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I had to get the extra padding to make it "perfect". Also, when you put it together you will probably think it was very expensive for what it is (I did). But we've had ours for over a year now and it is as good as when we first got it."

"My husband used to get up 2-3 times a night, restless and uncomfortable, and he was always tired. Each time he got up it would wake me up from the movement of the bed. With this bed he has slept completely through the night every night. When he gets up for work in the morning I don't even wake up from him moving around, and he even sits on the edge of the bed to put his socks on and my side of the bed doesn't move! Best sleep I have had! I waited way to long to get this bed and recommend it to everyone!"

"I bought this bed because it was the cheaper model. It felt better than my old bed but the 3000 model feels like a air mattress. I bought a pillow top to go on top of the mattress and still don't get a good night of sleep. I would recommend to buy one of the better models with a pillow top."

Hi Kevin. I'm Stephanie, a member of Select Comfort's Customer Service team. I am sorry you are having an issue with your Sleep Number bed and that you are having issues getting comfortable. Everyone reacts to a new mattress differently. Some people love a firm bed, and the c3 is great for people who like a firmer sleep surface. However, there are many comfort suggestions we can offer you in order to help you get comfortable. I am confident that we can resolve your issue. Please call us at 1-888-411-2270 and we will be happy to walk you through finding a setting.

"We purchased this model for a guest bed after buying the P5 for ourselves. There is no comparison between the two. This is a basic bed with not a lot of padding and does feel a bit like you are sleeping on an air mattress. The P5 is well worth the extra money, it sleeps and feels like a traditional mattress. To be really comfortable you will need to use a foam or memory foam topper on this bed. I still think it is a comfortable bed, more comfortable than a conventional mattress and if you don't mind a firm bed with not a lot of padding this may be perfect for you. We also have had sagging in the middle so you roll to the middle. Customer service's help is a chamber lift for me to purchase to hopefully solve this problem. That should be sent at no charge or at least available at a store so there is no shipping charge. I am a bit disappointed in the quality of this bed as it is rarely slept on as it is used as a guest bed and that select comfort's solution is going to cost me, not much but still."

My name is Stephanie and I am a member of Select Comfort's online customer service team. I am sorry to hear you were not satisfied with your guest bed. The c3 model is the second-firmest model we have, after the c2. It may not be right for everyone, but I am glad to hear you are able to customize the bed to make it work for you. The issue you experienced with the center is not very common, but the lift is an item that helps a lot. While it is unfortunate that you had to purchase this item for a small fee, I am confident that it will resolve your issue. Thank you for your review and your repeat purchase.

"Just thought I would let you know that I have had my sleep number bed for over 15 years and still LOVE it! We are thinking about getting a new one (only because we want a bigger bed) and I am going to give my queen size bed to my 14 yr old. I bought the bed before I was married and my husband fell in love with it as well. Now my dad, brother and in laws all have one!!!! you cannot go wrong with one of these beds."

"I love this bed! I wanted others to know that we opted out of the foundation and just put some particle board down over our slats on our bed. Worked like a charm and saved lots of $$! Also, as I put the C3 together, I was struck that the difference between the C2 and the C3 seems to be an added piece of foam that gets zipped in on top of the air mattress itself. Feels great, but not sure it warrants the cost difference between the two. Again, I think the mattress is fantastic, and I haven't slept this well in far too long!"

"It used to take me a minimum 45 minutes to fall asleep. Then I would wake up several times during the night and go through the same thing trying to fall back to sleep. Once we got the sleep number bed, I can now fall asleep within 5 minutes of laying down! Seriously! And my spouse no longer complains about a sore back every morning. We are thrilled and recommend Select Comfort to all our friends and family."

"We've owned the Sleep Number for 3years now and have recommended it to friends and family. When we first purchased the mattress, my husband and I slept like babies. We felt wonderful, refreshed, and my husband had no back pain. Now the only problem we have is the mattress moves and we have to push it back in place everyday. If we didn't have that problem it would be the perfect bed for us."

"We purchased a Sleep Number bed in hopes of reducing my husband's morning back pain. The bed has helped him, as he can now get up in the morning and bend over to put on his shoes without groaning. Unfortunately, the bed is not a good fit for me. I find the mattress extremely hard, even on lower numbers. I am a small person (5'2" & 105 lbs) and perhaps would have been better off with an upgraded model with more padding, but we were on a budget. We did use our existing traditional box spring which works fine to support the mattress. The mattress is extremely light, and very easy to move. The compressor that inflates the bed is quite loud. If you are adding air at bedtime, it's no big deal, but if you want to add air in the middle of the night and sleep with someone else, they will probably wake up. It's about as loud as a vacuum cleaner."

"This bed is the greatest investment (which wasn't that expensive) that I have ever made. After switching from my old innerspring matress to my Sleep Number Bed, I feel more refreshed in the morning, I do not wake up during the night, and I can change my Sleep Number whenever I want!! How cool is that? My Sleep Number is a 30, which is pretty soft. Select Comfort's mattress pads that they sell, are also very important to have when you have a Sleep Number Bed. I will NEVER go back to another innerspring mattress again. It's given me the energy in the morning like I have never had before!! Thanks Select Comfort for making this product!"
